Flexco belt cleaning for diverse applications (Aug 2009)

BMG’s specialist belting division distributes a belt cleaning system that ensures optimum performance of all belt conveyor applications in diverse industries.

“The Flexco belt cleaning range, which provides reliable solutions to cleaning, splicing, belt slippage and other maintenance problems, consists of pre-cleaners, secondary cleaners and speciality cleaners,” says Donovan Scott, divisional manager of BMG’s belting division. “Flexco Eliminator belt cleaners are easy to install, ensure dependable performance and require minimum maintenance.”

Unlike conventional pre-cleaners with one-piece solid blades or track-mounted blades without cushions, the Eliminator H type cleaner features 200 mm segmented blades mounted on individual cushions. This means consistent blade tension is maintained across the width of the belt – especially at the faster wearing, material carrying centre of the belt. As a result, superior cleaning is achieved, with minimal blade tensioning maintenance. These cleaners are suitable for light or medium duty cleaning applications. In heavy duty, high performance applications, the H type can be used in junction with Eliminator secondary cleaners for a complete cleaning system.

The compact Eliminator P-Type series is a secondary cleaner designed for applications where space is limited. Independently tensioned 150 mm blades conform to the irregular contours of virtually any belt surface, which means that constant blade-to-belt contact is maintained, resulting in efficient cleaning.

The I-Type belt cleaner has a unique cushion design that keeps the blade at a constant 90angle to the belt for maximum cleaning power. The cushion provides dual spring action to automatically re-tension individual cleaning tips to the belt, regardless of the wear rate on adjoining tips.

For tough cleaning applications, with wet, sticky carryback materials, the U-Type conveyor belt cleaner is recommended. The combination of the U shaped blade and offset pole intensifies cleaning power in the material carrying centre of the belt. This series is also perfect for cupped belts and belts with worn centres.

The R-Type series is recommended for enhanced cleaning in reversible belt applications. Two way shock absorbing cushions accommodate reversing belts used on shuttle conveyors, conveyors that roll back or in tripper and stacker applications.

Other speciality units in this range include E-Type pre-cleaners with segmented blades and high temperature pre-cleaners for vulcanised belt applications that exceed 100C.

Different blades are available for various belt conveying applications. These include moulded urethane and impact resistant tungsten carbide blades for mechanical fasteners, severe duty blades and blades for vulcanised belt applications. Blades with two cleaning edges are also available, so when one side wears out, the tip is simply unbolted and turned around.

The Flexco range also includes Persuader belt trainers and positioners that rectify belt mistracking. For problems associated with fugitive materials and spillage, Deflector belt plows and Flex-Lok skirt clamps are recommended.
